The notebook never adds up
One person was away three days, another only eats dinner, the shopping was done by three people and the rent by one. Opening that notebook together at month's end produces more argument than arithmetic — and the suspicion lands on whoever kept it.

The daily meal count
Breakfast, lunch and dinner for the whole mess on one page. Half meals and guests fit too.
A standing meal plan
Someone who only ever eats lunch and dinner gets set up once, and every day fills itself in. Away for a week? Those days stop.
Bazar
Who shopped, when, and for how much. The month's bazar total is the top half of the meal rate.
Rent, bills and fines
Split evenly, by meals eaten, or by shares you set — the division is your call and it is saved as decided. Rent that repeats gets defined once and charged each month.
Deposits
What each member has paid in. Deposits minus what they consumed is the balance — owed to them, or owed by them.
Meal rate and settlement
Total bazar over total meals, to four decimal places, with the leftover poisha allotted rather than lost. Close the month and the numbers stop moving.
Managers and members
Everyone joins with an invite code. Members write their own meals; managers record the bazar, deposits and costs.
Who changed what
Every change is logged with who made it and when. Nothing gets quietly edited.

Create the mess
Name it, then drop the invite code in your mess's group chat. Everyone lets themselves in.
Keep it daily
Meals and bazar: half a minute a day. Set standing plans and even that goes away.
Close the month
The meal rate, every balance, a CSV if you want one — then lock it. A closed month cannot be edited by anyone.
Common questions
How is the meal rate worked out?
The month's total bazar divided by the month's total meals. Rent and bills stay out of it — they are split separately, because what you ate has nothing to do with what the flat costs.
What if someone is away for a few days?
Mark those dates as away. No meals are generated in their name for that stretch, so the month's arithmetic never counts them.
How do rent and the electricity bill get split?
However your mess splits them: evenly per head, in proportion to meals, or by shares you set. Whichever you pick is snapshotted, so reopening a month settles it exactly as before.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Mess Ledger is an open-source project, built to run on infrastructure that costs nothing. No ads, and your mess's accounts are not for sale.
Is my mess's data safe?
Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored readable. Your session lives in an httpOnly cookie no script on the page can read. And one mess cannot see another's data — that boundary is enforced all the way down in the database, not just in the app.
Do I need to install an app?
No — it runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or laptop. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
